New Nuclear Technology for Commercial Use – Gen IV

Torsten Dilot has experience in evaluating next generation nuclear power plants; Generation IV (Gen IV) reactors. Late autumn 2015 a task force from Berotec, with Torsten as leading specialist, made a study to be resulted in a recommendation to either “go”, “no-go” or “warning”, of a new developed Gen IV reactor concept. The study involved a deeper description and analysis of the technology including materials, assessment of market, the organization of the company behind the reactor and finance. SWOT analyses were made covering the four areas, thus technology, market, organization and finance, described in detail and reported to the customer, a European investment company for sustainable energy.

Torsten is of the opinion that Gen IV reactors now has a promising future since material problems seems to be solved. Especially from environmental reasons Gen IV nuclear power ought to have a promising future. By using Gen IV nuclear reactors, the existing nuclear fuel waste can be reused at least 25 times before its energy content is spent. The resulting nuclear waste will then be only a fraction compared to nuclear fuel waste of today. Nuclear power is also a climate neutral and hence climate friendly energy source. In a perspective of some thousands years, nuclear fuel waste could also be considered as a renewable energy source.

Torsten Dilot

Dilot Energy & Analysis AB (former Consulting Dilot and Dilot Consulting AB), DEA AB, was founded by Torsten Dilot in year 2004. Torsten Dilot is in autumn 1987 graduated Master of Science in Engineering Physics. After graduation he got his first employment at ABB Atom in the beginning of 1988. At ABB Atom, which became Westinghouse 1999, he got his basic experience in nuclear power. After 15 years at ABB Atom/Westinghouse he was headhunted by a MedTech company, Medical Products Octagon AB, through his experiences as a safety analysis expert, which requires an awareness of quality. During autumn 2004, after about one year at Medical Products Octagon, as Manager Quality and Production,

he continued his professional career by starting Dilot Consulting. When Torsten was founded Consulting Dilot, he returned to the energy industry in general and the nuclear power industry in particularly, in which Torsten today has about 28 years’ experience. Today he is Competence Area Manager Energy at DEA AB parallel to his consultant role in different kinds of technical branches, such as the energy and nuclear power industry, MedTech and the defense industry. Former Torsten joined partnership through his company with Berotec. Today DEA AB is a more independent company cooperating with other companies, such e.g. Berotec, Trovisio and ÅF.

Ulf Kruse

I had the honour of working with Torsten at Berotec. He was instrumental in the build-up of the Västerås office and a greatly appreciated consultant in the energy business area, especially within nuclear power production systems. Appreciated both by clients and fellow consultants. He became thought leader and Competence Area Manager of our Energy area and as such reported directly to me.

Torsten impressed me both by his expertise and contribution to clients but also as thought leader and by his network in the energy market. He single handedly organised network meetings in the Swedish Parliament, Energy Summits, Almedalen-seminars and published debate-articles in several large media regarding the energy subject. Torstens energy and drive combined with being a really nice person to be with made him an invaluable colleague and friend.
